This class was inspired by this book on Matisse which we absolutely love. After reading it we started talking about how we can also "draw" in different ways, just like Matisse, who found in scissors the ideal tool for making amazing artwork.

1) Bring out a bag filled with different kinds of plastic animas (horses, unicorns, crabs, bears, lions, dinosaurs, etc), and ask the children to close their eyes and pick 1 random animal from the bag.  Once they did, I opened up the conversation, asking them "where do the animal they picked live?, what does he eat?, who are his friends?, what is his home like?, etc". We started talking about this and they were really INTO it.

2) Bring out the papers, magazines etc and ask them to start working on their collages, focused on their animals. They will start cutting the pieces that interest and that to them, have some sort of connection to the animal they picked and will add them to the paper using the glue stick.

I'm telling you this was really fun and easy to set up and a great way to introduce a new artist to them with a little bit of a twist! Hope you give it a go!
