This is a simple invitation to create that I first set it up for my boys, inspired by a beautiful book about Klimt called "The Magical Tree". After reading the book and looking at the beautiful illustrations and at Klimt's art I brought out the paper, the black ink and a skinny brush. We then talked about the patterns they saw on the book and I asked them to think like Klimt and make their own patterns using the ink.
Once they all had their black patterns covering the whole paper, I brought out the paints, a cup of water, and the brushes and they started painting using all the warm colors I set up. They did a fabulous job and even tried mixing colors to get new shades. Every single painting was a framer. Seriously.
Every kid loves glitter right? So the cherry on our "klimt pie" was this golden glitter glue I nailed at a Dollar Tree. Many of them hey used it liberally creating more shapes on top of the paint, and other simple spread it using a brush on some parts. The end result was truly beautiful!
